Abduction

During abduction, the extremities are removed from the body.

The illustration shows the abduction of the straight arms in the shoulder joint.

The outer part of the shoulder muscles contracts.

The butterfly reverse is another form of abduction in the shoulder joint, but the arms are held in front. (As with the flying ones)

Example. Keep your arms straight or bent close to your body. In the contraction phase, the arms are removed from the body.
