Ampho-Moronal®

Definition and areas of application

Ampho-Moronal® is available in different forms.

Ampho-Moronal® contains the active ingredient amphotericin B and is a prescription drug.

This medication is called an antifungal medicine. This means that it is used in the event of a fungal infection, especially a yeast or mold infestation

These can be found in the mouth and throat (thrush), occur on the skin, in the intestines, the airways and in the genital area.

Certain drugs, such as glucocorticoids, cytostatics or antibiotics, can promote the growth of fungi by damaging protective barriers such as the mucous membrane of the oropharynx or the intestines or by reducing the immune system in general.

Application and dosage form

Ampho-Moronal® is available in the form of tablets, lozenges and as a suspension (solid dissolved in liquid).

Ampho-Moronal® as a tablet form becomes a therapy Yeast infection in the intestines (Candidiasis) applied, or a fungal infection to preventwhich as a side effect e.g. cytostatic treatment taking place as part of cancer therapy.

Lozenges are closed local treatment at a Infection in the mouth displayed.

A Tablet administration in children must be carefully considered, as there are no clinical studies for the use of Ampho-Moronal® in under 18-year-olds

The Use as a suspension is especially in immunocompromised patients and especially at Infants and young children displayed. It is also used preventively in newborns whose mothers suffer from yeast infestation in the vagina or diabetes.

Suspensions are as Administration to premature babies is not recommended.

Side effects and precautions

Before taking Ampho-Moronal® it must be ensured that no hypersensitivity to the active ingredient Amphotericin B or other components of the medication are present.

With a systemic infection, an infestation of the internal organs, is Ampho-Moronal® not suitable.

When taken orally usually occur in comparison less common side effects but these cannot be ruled out.

Can occur e.g. a

  • Inflammation of the lining of the tongue,
  • nausea,
  • Vomit
  • or diarrhea be.

In rare cases it is also from other undesirable effects how

  • Hives (Blistering and reddening of the skin, as when touching nettles)
  • Angioedema (rapid onset, painless swelling of the subcutaneous tissue),
  • Flatulence,
  • furry feeling the entire tongue,
  • Inflammation of the lining of the mouth (Stomatitis),
  • Dry mouth,
  • dizziness and sleep disorders been reported.

In the application there is no restrictions on the ability to drive and operating machines.

At Pregnant or breastfeeding patients must have the gift well weighed because there is not a lot of information available here, for example whether the active ingredient passes into breast milk.
