Surgery for osteoarthritis

Operations for existing osteoarthritis

Often one ends in vain Osteoarthritis therapy in operational measures. The definitive therapy of the arthrosis is often only the artificial joint replacement, i.e. one Total endoprosthesis (TEP). This will be the most common hip joint - Hip prosthesis - and now almost the same on the knee joint - Knee prosthesis - carried out.

But also on the shoulder, the elbow joint, the ankle or the Big toe joint prostheses can be installed (implanted) in osteoarthritis. As part of a pilot study, so-called bioprostheses for advanced rheumatism and arthrosis as a joint replacement for little ones Joints implanted.

The patient's pain, together with the changes on the X-ray, determine the right time for an artificial joint replacement for osteoarthritis.

Since the artificial joints have a limited shelf life (Hip joints last about 15 years) and replacement operations do not only take place at an older age and are more difficult than the initial implantation, one tries to delay the time of prosthesis implantation in "younger" people. The decision must always be made on a case-by-case basis between doctor and patient. The operative therapeutic measures are of course not limited to endoprosthetic joint replacement. Other operative procedures are also used. For this, please look at the respective joint disease.

I would be happy to advise you!

Who am I?
My name is dr. Nicolas Gumpert. I am a specialist in orthopedics and the founder of .
Various television programs and print media report regularly about my work. On HR television you can see me every 6 weeks live on "Hallo Hessen".
But now enough is indicated ;-)

In order to be able to treat successfully in orthopedics, a thorough examination, diagnosis and a medical history are required.
In our very economic world in particular, there is too little time to thoroughly grasp the complex diseases of orthopedics and thus initiate targeted treatment.
I don't want to join the ranks of "quick knife pullers".
The aim of any treatment is treatment without surgery.

Which therapy achieves the best results in the long term can only be determined after looking at all of the information (Examination, X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, etc.) be assessed.
