Voltaren Dolo
introduction
Voltaren dolo® is a drug with the active ingredient diclofenac, which belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) heard. As a result, Voltaren dolo®, like all other preparations in the Voltaren dolo® product range, has an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect.
Voltaren dolo® (extra) are coated tablets that are available in a dosage of 25 mg or 12.5 mg. In addition to the active ingredient diclofenac, which is present in this preparation in its salt form diclofenac potassium, these tablets also contain various auxiliary substances such as:
- Cellulose
- Sucrose
- Cornstarch
- Magnesium stearate
- Macrogol and
- Tricalcium phosphate
and also contain the colorants iron (III) oxide and titanium dioxide.
Voltaren dolo® is pharmacy-only, but not prescription-only. It is suitable for adults and young people from 14 years of age.
Unless otherwise expressly recommended by a doctor, the tablets are taken with the 25 mg dosage as needed about every four to six hours, but no more than three times a day, so that a maximum amount of 75 mg diclofenac is not exceeded.
(Consequently, the tablets should be the 12.5 mg dosage be taken a maximum of six times a day). It is best to take the tablets no later than half an hour before or at least two hours after a meal, because this is the fastest way to unfold their effects and are the least harmful to a sensitive person stomach.

Voltaren dolo® extra
According to the manufacturer, the commercial preparation Voltaren dolo® extra should have a long-lasting effect on mild to moderately severe pain. The effect lasts for about 6 hours. It is intended for the short-term treatment of acute pain. For example, it can be used for mild to moderate headaches, muscle, back or neck pain. It should normally not be taken for more than 4 days at a time.

Voltaren dolo® should always be taken according to the instructions and agreements with the attending physician. If you are unsure about the dosage, you should not hesitate to ask your doctor. In principle, the lowest possible dosage should be selected that is necessary to alleviate the symptoms. The duration of use should be as long as necessary, but as short as possible. Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, adults and adolescents aged 15 years and over should take one tablet of the prescribed strength (25 or 50 mg). As a rule, a daily dose of 75 mg per day should not be exceeded.
Voltaren dolo® should only be taken for a short time if possible. Without medical treatment and supervision, the duration of use should be a maximum of 4 days. If the symptoms do not decrease or worsen, a doctor should definitely be consulted. If a larger amount is accidentally ingested, various symptoms can arise. In the event of an overdose and uncertainty, a doctor should be consulted immediately. If a dose is missed, under no circumstances should a double dose be taken. In this case, too, a consultation with a doctor can be helpful.
25mg / 50mg dosage
Voltaren dolo® is available in doses of 12.5 and 25 mg. Voltaren® is available in a 50 mg dosage. Depending on the symptoms, the appropriate dosage should be selected or discussed with the doctor. The two preparations with the lower dosage form are indicated for fever and moderate to severe pain of various kinds. The 50 mg dosage is indicated for comparably more severe pain. This preparation is often used as part of a therapy for rheumatoid arthritis.
Maximum dose
With Voltaren dolo® the maximum dose of 75 mg should not be exceeded. For Voltaren®50 mg, the maximum daily dose is 150 mg. This information relates to adults and young people aged 15 and over. For some people the maximum dose may be lower. The smallest possible amount should always be taken. The higher the dose of Voltaren dolo®, the greater the risk of side effects.

The application of Voltaren dolo® is recommended for the symptomatic short-term treatment of fever and mild to moderately severe pain. After ingestion, the active ingredient is transported through the blood directly to the places in the body where it is needed.

Voltaren dolo® for headaches
Voltaren dolo® can temporarily relieve headaches. If the headache occurs more often, a precise research into the cause and, if necessary, a lifestyle modification is useful. If this is not possible and sufficient on your own, a doctor should be consulted. Regular use of Voltaren dolo® for headaches is not recommended.
Voltaren dolo® for a herniated disc
Voltaren dolo® can temporarily relieve pain caused by a herniated disc. The treatment of a herniated disc always includes various drug and non-drug therapy measures. An individual approach and follow-up are extremely important. The treatment measures should always be discussed with the treating orthopedic surgeon and physiotherapist. It is also important that in the physiotherapy it is always stated if a pain medication such as Voltaren dolo® has been taken.

Voltaren Dolo® for toothache
If mild to moderate toothache occurs, Voltaren dolo® can be taken temporarily if there are no contraindications or intolerance or interactions with other medications that are currently being taken. The pain reliever should only be seen as a bridge until the next dentist appointment.

Side effects
In general, Voltaren dolo® is well tolerated and, due to its very low dosage, leads to side effects less often or less strongly than other Voltaren® products.

The most common disorders of the central nervous system (CNS) can manifest themselves as dizziness, headaches, tiredness, drowsiness or unusual irritability.
Therefore, it makes sense not to actively participate in road traffic or to operate heavy machinery immediately after taking Voltaren dolo®. Symptoms of the gastrointestinal tract are also relatively common. These include:
- stomach pain
- nausea

- diarrhea

- Inflammation of the gastric mucosa

This differs from the Voltaren dolo® described above in that it has the shape of a liquid capsule. The active ingredient diclofenac is therefore already in a liquid state inside the capsule, which means that it can be absorbed more quickly by the body and has a faster pain-relieving effect than the normal Voltaren dolo®.

Voltaren dolo® during pregnancy

Heart and kidney damage can occur. Furthermore, an embryonic vascular connection, the so-called ductus arteriosus Botalli, can be closed prematurely. In addition, the birth can be delayed. The expectant mother may lose more blood during childbirth if she would take Voltaren dolo®.

Voltaren dolo® and the pill - are they compatible?
The effectiveness of the contraceptive pill is normally not impaired by briefly taking Voltaren dolo®. If, however, vomiting or diarrhea occurs while taking the pain medication, the contraceptive pill is no longer safe. If Voltaren dolo® is taken permanently or excessively and there are strong changes in the intestinal flora, the contraceptive protection of the contraceptive pill may be impaired.
Voltaren dolo® and alcohol - are they compatible?
A combined intake of alcohol and Voltaren dolo® can have short-term and long-term unpredictable consequences. It is advisable to refrain from consuming alcohol as long as Voltaren dolo® is being taken. It could, among other things, increase the risk of stomach ulcers, kidney and liver damage and cause an increased tendency to bleed.
