definition

The throw or slap in handball is the most elementary game of all. It should be used primarily in handball training. See methodology

Technology in handball

The basic technical repertoire for Handball are all kinds of forms of movement. Individual technical forms such as passing or catching are seen as a prerequisite for playing handball and are therefore not explained in detail. The most important skill in handball is the throw on goal. There are three types of throw. Throws from a standing position (blow throws), throws while jumping (jump throws) and throws while falling (drop throws). These variations can then be further differentiated into throws on the opposite side of the arm, throws over the head, shoulder-high throws, waist-high throws and knee-high throws. Furthermore, the throws can be carried out in combinations in order to deceive the opponent (you start to throw overhead and then throw off knee-high). In addition, there is a twist differentiation in the various variations, for example an experienced player can throw the ball with rotation.

In order to explain all the individual throw variations individually, this would go beyond the scope of any book, so only reference is made to the normal throw from the throw display. All other forms of a throw are based on this technique.

initial position

The player holds the ball firmly in both hands. In the starting position, the body weight is shifted to the rear leg. D Look at the goal (goal). The arm is returned to the limb side. From the point of view of biomechanical principles, this increases the acceleration path.

Backward movement

The limb is brought back further. The upper body is turned up to the limb side. The right foot is placed in front of the left so that the thrower maintains greater body tension.

The upper body is turned up to the maximum, the limb is far behind the body. At this point the actual throwing movement begins.

At the beginning of the throwing movement, the upper body is twisted towards the goal. Then the throwing movement takes place from the shoulder.

The ball leaves the hand above, in front of the body. During this phase, the arm has the highest speed and the momentum transmitted to the ball is greatest.

The body is turned to the opposite side of the limb so that the impulse is intercepted and the body is brought back into a stable equilibrium.

The form of the punch shown above is an ideal form that is only rarely used in a handball game. In order to learn how to throw a punch, it is therefore important to incorporate as many variations as possible into the training. (see above).
