Fruit acid cream

What is fruit acid cream?

The fruit acid cream is a class of skin creams which, thanks to their fruit acid content, trigger many positive effects on the skin. Although fruit acid sounds very aggressive at first, the fruit acid cream is a rather mild form of therapy for various skin diseases.

Since the cream contains particularly small molecules, it acts like a peeling for the skin. For example, skin imperfections are reduced and the skin becomes more even and smoother. Therefore, fruit acid cream can also be used against other skin ailments such as scars and wrinkles.

For whom is treatment with a fruit acid cream useful?

Fruit acid creams are special skin creams that can have a particularly good effect on many diseases. In principle, fruit acid creams can be used for daily skin care. However, people who are not affected by certain skin diseases or damage can also benefit from other, less strong and often cheaper creams.
The fatty acid creams are used in particular in the treatment of blemished skin. Due to their special composition, they can clean the skin particularly thoroughly, so that diseases such as acne can be treated with them. Fruit acid cream can also be used on dry skin. It is also particularly reliable on wrinkles and scars.

Effect against pimples / acne

Pimples and acne are one of the main skin problems that fruit acid cream can treat. The fruit acid cream leads to a refinement of the skin through various mechanisms.
For example, the production of sebum is better regulated so that the sebum glands become clogged less quickly. At the same time, this also has an effect on the greasy sheen that the skin can take on under certain circumstances. This is also reduced by the fruit acid cream.
In addition, the cream can change the size of the skin pores; they are made smaller by the treatment. This brings fewer substances to the surface of the skin that cause pimples and acne.
Finally, the fatty acid cream also has an anti-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory effect, so that blocked glands no longer develop into large inflamed pimples and the symptoms of acne subside.

Anti-wrinkle effect

The fruit acid cream should also be able to achieve a good effect in the treatment of skin wrinkles. This is based on three main mechanisms: The skin is hydrated by the treatment with the cream, so the cream counteracts dry skin by binding some liquid. This hydration leads to a smoothing of the skin, which can help remove wrinkles.
In addition, the production of connective tissue (collagen) is more strongly activated by the fruit acid cream. These additional collagen fibers also counteract the formation of wrinkles and flatten existing wrinkles.
The third mechanism is based on rapid skin renewal. Old skin cells are additionally weakened by the fruit acid cream and thus broken down more quickly by the body, while the production of new young cells is promoted, so that the skin is rejuvenated overall.

Effect against scars

The effect of the fruit acid cream against scars is based on principles similar to that in the elimination of wrinkles. The old cells that make up the scar tissue are broken down and eliminated by the treatment with the cream, at the same time the body creates new cells to replace the scar tissue. In this way, small scars can almost completely disappear. With larger scars, the skin is also improved. For example, the fruit acid cream can reduce the depth of the grain. In the acute phase of scarring, fruit acid cream can also be used.
As long as there is an open wound, the cream must not be applied, but fruit acid cream can be used on a closed wound. This has a stimulating effect on cell growth, so that the skin defect is closed faster and less scar tissue forms.

Effect against pigment spots

The fruit acid cream can also be used for pigment spots. The cream first breaks down the old cells. These are often the most heavily pigmented cells. This initially weakens the pigment spots. The cream also has a positive effect on cell growth, so that instead of the old pigmented cells, new, less pigmented cells are built up. The fruit acid cream also contains the so-called Achilles gel, which has a lightening effect on the skin. The fruit acid cream can be used to treat all types of hyperpigmentation, including freckles and age spots.

How high is the concentration of fruit acid?

Fruit acid creams can be purchased in various strengths. The strengths are given in percent and refer to the proportion of fruit acid contained in the cream.
The weakest cream has a share of eight to ten percent, depending on the manufacturer and brand. Then the concentration increases in steps of ten (20%, 30%, 40%, etc.). The strongest cream that can be bought over the counter and therefore available without a prescription contains 70% fruit acid.
Creams that contain a special form of fruit acids, so-called alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), have a particularly intense effect.

Side effects of the fruit acid cream

Just as diverse as the positive effects of the fruit acid cream are its side effects.
One of the more serious complications is the allergic reaction to the fruit acid cream. This can be triggered by the different components of the creams. Often this only leads to reddening and severe itching of the treated skin areas. In the worst case, however, an allergic shock can be caused, which is noticeable in the cardiovascular system and in rare cases can even be life-threatening.
Irrespective of the allergic reaction, the skin can be irritated by the fruit acid cream. This is also shown by reddening and swelling of the skin.
The renewal of skin cells desired by the fruit acid cream can meanwhile present itself in the form of flaking of the skin.
With creams that have a special effect in depth, the hydration of the skin can show up more intensely. This can lead to edema (water retention) in and under the skin. In the case of pronounced edema, this can cause a congestion in the lymph vessels, causing these vessels to become inflamed.
The use of fruit acid creams rarely results in what is known as keloid formation, i.e. adhesions of the skin that can arise due to excessive activation of skin cell growth.
Since the fruit acid cream stimulates the production of new skin cells, the skin is initially very light-sensitive after the treatment, as the new skin cells have usually not yet formed enough melatonin (skin pigment) to be protected against the sun.

Duration of treatment

The fruit acid cream can generally be used for a very long time. It works best if you use it daily for several months. However, you can usually see the first changes after a few days. After using it for a few weeks, a really positive effect should have developed. However, the long-term improvement of the skin's appearance is only achieved through long-term use of the fruit acid cream.

Cost of the fruit acid cream

The cost of fruit acid creams differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. They also depend on the strength of the cream and what additives it contains. Often the branded creams are also more expensive, i.e. fruit acid creams from unknown companies. The total costs for the treatment with fruit acid cream also vary greatly depending on the duration of the application. Fruit acid creams are usually available in pack sizes between 20 and 200 ml, the prices usually vary between 15 and 50 euros depending on the amount of cream.

How often can you use fruit acid cream?

How often you can use the fruit acid creams depends on the strength of the cream. The skin type of the person concerned also plays a role. Frequent use of the creams should not overuse particularly sensitive skin. The type of skin disease also plays a role in the frequency of use. Most people use the cream about once or twice a day. It is best to discuss the frequency and type of application that makes sense for each person personally with the treating dermatologist, and various application tips can also be found in the package insert.

Can you use fruit acid cream during pregnancy?

The best thing to do is to discuss with the doctor responsible whether you can and should use fruit acid cream during pregnancy. They can decide for the individual case whether it is important to use the cream or whether it can be postponed until after pregnancy. The consultation should take place with both the treating dermatologist and the gynecologist. As a rule, however, the over-the-counter creams do not contain any questionable concentrations of active ingredients, so that no harm in pregnancy can be assumed. If you want to be on the safe side, you should also read the package slip and, if in doubt, ask the pharmacist who is selling it.
